Field of Leaders
Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Over the last few months, Lawrence Tech has been preparing to rejoin the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The NAIA has over 300 member colleges and universities, and crowns 23 national champions every year. Starting in the Fall of 2011, Lawrence Tech's Men's Soccer and Women's Volleyball teams will participate in the NAIA.

At this point, we are busy recruiting athletes who want a Lawrence Tech education and the opportunity to participate in competitive athletics. Men's Soccer Coach Will Dyer scouted and recruited future Blue Devils at last week's national talent showcase in Raleigh, North Carolina. Coach Dyer is seeking passionate players who will be team players. Coach Dyer has already received a couple of commitments for next year's squad.

In addition to building a team, we are starting a campaign to build a new field. Last week, we showed staff and players conceptual drawings for the Field of Leaders. The Field of Leaders is an artificial turf soccer field with seating for fans, a press box, and covered benches for both teams. Our goal is to have a blue turf, much like Boise State's field.

Awareness of the new field is very early, but we are seeking financial support. If you have an interest in learning more about the Field of Leaders, please contact me. I always have time to talk about Blue Devil Athletics. We will post conceptual drawings very soon.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Diwali Night
Monday, November 08, 2010

Diwali is commonly known as the "festival of lights" and is a very important celebration to people from India. It is also a very popular celebration on college campuses across our country. Oklahoma State University and the University of Washington are well-known for their festive Diwali celebrations.  At Lawrence Tech, Diwali has become known as a night of fireworks, high energy music, great Indian food, and an annual dance performance by "Euphoria."

Euphoria is a student dance group that combines Bollywood moves with American hip-hop. Last year, Euphoria danced to "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. There were five students in that number, but this year the group grew to 17 students. They danced to "DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again" by Usher. The crowd went crazy, and shouted, "Encore." The students were even successful with getting President Walker and Provost Vaz onto the dance floor.

Euphoria will perform at this year's Miss LTU contest in February. You need to check them out. Our students can "cut a rug." Check out the link on youtube for a short video on our celebration.
